Printing Scenario Editor Maps

What a great program!

But hasn‘t this been cannibalised by the taken down scenario editor?

I won‘t be able to create any scenarios, am I?

Thanks for the compliment.
It is unfortunate that the editor cannot be downloaded at the moment, but hope remains high that eventually the M44 site will be fully functional again.
At least it was a standalone piece of software so it hasn’t disappeared for those who already have it.

That‘s too bad. They promised to make it a free download last year. Then the whole fiasko with the website happened.

This doesn’t make any sense at all, since it seems, that you can load the .m44 files into BGA. Why would they integrate this feature, when killing off the editor soon after?

Is it against the forum rules to share ready to print pdfs of scenarios?

Edit: grammar

A new version (7.0) is now available on BGG.
This allows the use of .m44 files created with the new online version of the editor, as well as the original standalone version.
I have also included in the download a new set of higher resolution badges, as the old ones were always a bit blurry.
It now uses a more Memoir-like font for the labels.
Please let me know if I have missed any bugs.

A naughty little bug has already shown up, whereby the tags and medals were sometimes swapped out with others due to the slightly altered .m44 file format in the online version.
Thanks @rudigger for spotting it.
This has been corrected and v7.1 is on BGG.

Edit 20/09 - Awaiting clearance of v7.3 - there was a problem with the previous version when adding Summary Cards. Thanks again @rudigger ,

Wow, it works like a charm. Thank you very much for your effort! I have a short question, maybe someone else had this problem: I would like to recreate the D-Day landings, but I cannot find a method to create the additional ocean tiles. Is there a simple solution for this issue?

Thankyou @MadMax .
Just to let you know there is (another) small bug introduced if you are using the online editor - the rectangular terrain is double-printed.
Essentially the program is having to deal with 3 different file formats now. Those created by the original editor, those with the online version & maps loaded into the online editor from the original.
This has been fixed and is awaiting the usual upload approval.
Unfortunately there is no simple solution to the ocean hex problem, as the editor (either version) does not allow their placement.
When creating maps of the BT versions I created the units on the ocean hexes as a separate layer (using ‘Exclusions’) then added the sea hexes in GIMP. I then merged the 2 images together to produce the final version. It should be noted, though, that some of the more unusual coastal hexes also do not exist in the editor, but can be copy and pasted from the BT versions.
D-Day BT maps.
All the best,
Kian

Thank you Kian for your quick reply I will try your solution.

Just finished the first map. Regarding the ocean tiles, I used a spare tile in the editor that wasn’t used elsewhere and replaced its image with the existing ocean tile. The only missing part I copied from the source you mentioned and applied the same method to another spare tile. Again, thank you very much for the tool and your support.

That’s great to hear.
V7.41 is crawling its way through the pending queue on BGG and should hopefully be up soon.

And as if by magic, the new version has just been approved.

First map done  (~40€ printing cost on PVC)

v7.5 is now up.
If you found it utterly irksome that the Axis and Allied units were printed on the same side of the hex, then worry no more. When ‘Invert top player’ is selected, the unit will now be moved to the top of the hex.
This has also had the consequence of forcing me to tidy up the positioning of the medals and tags which will be printed across the centre of the hex.
Across all platforms the font and colour of the labels can be changed and default to a common style.

I have been experimenting with the Fords to make them look a little more natural on the maps.
I would welcome any feedback regarding which version is preferred by others.
The top version shows my proposed changes and the lower one how they currently look. It has occurred to me that people may prefer a more obvious piece of terrain of the current version but am unsure.
Thanks in advance,
Kian

I definitely prefer the upper version. Looks much smoother and distinct enough in my book.

I would actually prefer this look for bridges (and other rectangular terrain) too, since I could toggle the “reduce rectangular terrain” button and replace them with the cardboard tokens if those were destructible per the scenario rules.

Thanks @rudigger .
I am planning to use the original type of image when the rectangular terrain is reduced since the blended images look odd when shrunk and are very indistinct. It could certainly work with more prominent features, such as the bridges. Hopefully I will be able to experiment a bit more soon as my development machine had a little fight with a cup of coffee and is currently languishing in the computer hospital. Fingers crossed.
For maps with destructible scenery I have always just used ‘Exclusions’ to remove them, although this does have the disadvantage of needing a separate document for the setup. As soon as I am operational again, experimentation can continue.

My computer is finally operational again and I was just getting ready to upload a new version when I received a possible bug report from a user.
He says that whenever he uses the online editor the Allies medals are always the Soviet ones.
Has anyone else had this problem ?
I have tried to recreate it myself, but to no avail.

The new version corrects for the fact that someone at DoW has decided to change the rotation of some of the rectangular terrain in the online editor. I probably would not have spotted it had I not been messing around with the Fords. I will put it on BGG when I am sure that I have checked the bug report for the previous version.

It appears that I did not remove the old code which always set the Allies on Winter/Desert boards to Soviets/British. That’s one problem solved.
Some bright spark on the dev team of the online version had changed the rotations of some of the rectangular terrain. This has also been fixed.
The Fords now appear as in the post above, but still appear in their familiar form when the option to shrink rectangular terrain is used, otherwise they become unrecognisable.
V7.52 is now up in its usual spot on BGG.
