Although I own five base games and most expansions, I found that I don’t have enough markers for some scenarios. The missing expansions (like D-Day landings) are no longer made, which leaves me hanging if I want to recreate those maps and scenarios.
So I decided to use FreeCAD and my Bambu Lab 3D printer and made 3D drawings of most markers that I printed in 4 or 5 colours. Some tiny details are not exactly as the original, and I don’t own every colour of filament that the original markers have, but in most cases I got close enough to the original that I am happy with the result.
If there is interest from someone who wants to 3D print them in multiple colours as well, I will gladly share the .stl files.
You did this for practical reasons, but I’ve also found that anytime I’ve done something to “bling out” or personalize my M44 collection, I think it’s cool also.
Yes, it was done for practical reasons, but also because I was curious to see how far I could push my multi-colour 3D printer. Since these 3D printed tokens don’t look that different from standard cardboard memoir '44 tokens, I don’t feel that they look too much like “bling”. I’ve seen someone sell “deluxe” tokens for Memoir '44 (at several US$ per token, that makes no sense to me, since these markers cost maybe one or two pennies each to 3D print), but that’s not my cup of tea. Painting the game pieces in camo might be my thing, but since I now own 6 base games and most of the expansions at least once, that will be a very big project.
In retrospect, it would have been much easier to just colour copy the markers that I owned or for which I could find images online, glue them onto cardboard and cut them out, but I went this design and 3D-print route and don’t regret it.
